Long ago, most children learned at home. Families taught kids math and reading. Some kids learned jobs through apprenticeships. An apprenticeship is when a person learns a trade from a master.

In the 1800s, things began to change. New laws said children must attend school. This made home education less common. By the mid-1900s, more people started to question school.

Today, many families choose to learn at home. Some families use the internet to find facts. This helps them learn many things quickly.

There are many ways to homeschool. Some families use a set plan. Others use unschooling. This means learning without a set list of lessons.

Families choose this for many reasons. Some live in far away places. Others want to spend more time with their kids. Some kids have health needs.

Laws about homeschooling are different in each place. In the United States, it is legal in all 50 states. In Germany, the laws are very strict. In France, parents must show they are qualified to teach.
