Alternative education

society Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Some kids do not go to regular schools. They use alternative education. This means they learn in new ways. They might learn at home. They might go to special schools.

Many of these schools have small classes. This helps students and teachers stay close. It helps them build a community. Some schools use different ways to teach. For example, Montessori schools use special methods. Waldorf schools are also common. Some schools focus on art. Others focus on nature.

This idea started a long time ago. People wanted to help children grow in many ways. They wanted to help their hearts and minds. They also wanted to help their bodies. Many thinkers helped start these ideas. One was Maria Montessori. Another was Rudolf Steiner.

In India, some students learn in a way called gurukulas. They live with a teacher called a guru. In Japan, some parents choose private schools. These schools give kids more freedom. In the United States, families have many choices. They can pick different types of schools for their children.
