In 1907, she opened her first school in Rome. It was called the Children's House. She watched how children acted. She saw they liked to explore. This led to her special way of teaching.

In a Montessori school, the room is ready for kids. Everything is at their height. Children pick their own work. They do not use grades or tests. Instead, they use their hands to learn.

One tool is sandpaper letters. Kids trace these rough letters with their fingers. This helps them learn shapes and sounds. They also use beads to learn math. For example, they use bead chains to learn math facts.

Teachers do not just give lectures. They guide each child. They watch to see what each student needs. This method spread to the United States by 1912. Today, many schools use it all over the world.
