The land has many different shapes and features. In the north and center, you will find many lakes. There are about 800 lakes in these areas.

The biggest one is called Greater Powidzkie Lake. The ground was shaped by old ice movements called glaciations. In the south, the land is flatter with fewer lakes. The highest point is Greater Kobyla Mountain. The lowest area is in the Warta River valley.

This region has a very long history. People often call it the "cradle of Poland." This is because it was the heart of the early Polish state in the 10th century. Gniezno and Poznań were very important centers of power.

These cities helped bring Christianity to the country. Over many years, the region changed many times. It was part of the Prussian empire and the Napoleonic Duchy of Warsaw. After World War I, a big uprising helped the region join the new Polish state.

This coal helps make 10% of the electricity for all of Poland. People also mine rock salt in Kłodawa. This one mine provides about 20% of the country's salt. There are also large amounts of natural gas near Kościan.

The soil is also very useful. About 60% of the land has fertile soil for farming. Forests cover about 25.8% of the province.

The weather helps people live and work. The air from the ocean keeps the climate mild. The growing season for plants is one of the longest in Poland. In the south, plants can grow for about 228 days. This makes the land great for many types of crops.

Most of the water in the province flows into the Warta river. This river is a major part of the local landscape. Traveling through the region is easy because of big roads. The A2 motorway runs right through the province.
