He uses metal parts from old weapons to create amazing art. His work is very important because it helps people think about peace. He makes things like masks and large seats called thrones. He also makes figures that look like living people. By doing this, he turns tools of death into symbols of life. His art shows that we can find beauty even after hard times.

Mabunda follows a special way to make his sculptures. He takes apart weapons like Kalashnikovs, rockets, and pistols. He also uses empty shell casings to build his pieces. He puts these metal parts together to make shapes. Sometimes he makes masks that look like traditional Sub-Saharan African masks. He also builds thrones that represent power. These thrones show how power used to rely on weapons.

This way of making art began in 1995. A group called the Christian Council of Mozambique started a project. They wanted to collect weapons after a long civil war. The war in Mozambique lasted almost twenty years. The project is called Transforming Guns into Hopes. This name comes from a verse in the Bible. It talks about turning swords into tools for farming. Since then, the group has collected about 800,000 weapons.

Mabunda was born in Maputo on January 1, 1975. The civil war in his country lasted 16 years. During that war, over 1 million people died. Mabunda even lost his own relatives during the fighting. Now, his art is famous all over the world. He has shown his work at the Center Pompidou in Paris. He also showed art at the Venice Biennale in Italy. His pieces have traveled to New York, Tokyo, and London.

Mabunda's work connects to many different parts of life. His style is called modernist, which is like the art of Picasso. Famous people have noticed his talent and his message. Former US president Bill Clinton even asked for special trophies. In 2017, his art was shown at the European Parliament. This was part of a project to prevent conflict. Mabunda uses his skill to show that violence can be stopped. He turns metal into a message of hope for everyone.
