Because he was so busy, he often went to the countryside in summer. He did this so he could focus on writing music. Fauré was known for his skill at improvising on the organ. This means he could make up beautiful music on the spot. He was so respected that France held a massive musical tribute for him in 1922.

He also wrote beautiful piano music called nocturnes. People enjoy his songs like "Clair de lune" and "Après un rêve." His early music often sounds very sweet and charming. However, his style changed as he got older. In his last twenty years, Fauré dealt with increasing deafness.

This made some of his later music sound more turbulent or withdrawn.

Fauré's influence can still be felt in music classrooms today. His new ways of using melody and harmony helped teach future generations.

He was a key part of the Société Nationale de Musique. This group was formed to help promote new music from France. Many other famous composers were members of this group too. While he was a great organist, he often preferred the piano. He felt the piano allowed for more delicate and subtle sounds. His life's work remains a major part of musical history.
