language culture Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Freezing food helps it stay fresh. It turns water into ice. This stops tiny germs from growing.

For a long time, people used winter frost to keep food. In 1861, Thomas Mort started the first freezing works in Australia. Later, frozen meat began to travel from places like New Zealand to Europe.

There are different ways to freeze food. One way is called cryogenic freezing, or flash freezing. This is very fast. It uses very cold liquid nitrogen. Fast freezing is good. It makes tiny ice crystals. This keeps the food's shape and feel.
