He is celebrated for creating a special style of English ballet. This style brought a unique feeling to the stage. Ashton worked in many ways to share art. He made dances for the ballet, opera, and even movies.

His work helped make the Royal Ballet a world-famous company. People still watch his dances to find beauty and joy today.

Ashton's journey into dance took many interesting steps. He first studied as a pupil under Léonide Massine. Later, he learned from a teacher named Marie Rambert.

In 1926, Rambert encouraged him to try choreographing his own shows. He started with a small ballet called A Tragedy of Fashion. He often worked with a close friend named Sophie Fedorovitch. She helped him with costumes and scenery for many years. This teamwork helped him create very special and lovely performances.

Ashton had a very busy and varied life. He was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in 1904. His family later moved to Lima, Peru, before returning to Ecuador. In 1919, he moved to England to attend Dover College. His family did not want him to be a dancer. They thought it was not a normal job for him. However, he stayed determined to follow his true dream. He even worked in an import-export firm in London for a while.

Many famous names and dates belong to his career. He joined Ninette de Valois's company in 1935. This group was later known as the Royal Ballet. Ashton created many famous works like Cinderella in 1948. He also made a beautiful ballet called Symphonic Variations in 1946.

He even worked on a film about Beatrix Potter in 1971. His talent reached many places, including New York and Paris.

Ashton's work connects to many things we see today. You might recognize the story of Cinderella from many books. He turned that story into a funny and bright ballet. He also used old music to make new dances. For example, he researched old French dances for his work Capriol Suite. He could mix strong leaps with very smooth, elegant movements. His art shows how stories and music can come alive through dance.
