For books, he made many detailed illustrations. He even made sculptures to show movement in three dimensions. He took careful notes on colors, like how horse shadows look blue. These details helped him create art that felt very authentic.

His journey to becoming a great artist had many steps. He was born in Canton, New York, in 1861. As a boy, he loved riding horses and camping. He attended military schools and later studied art at Yale University.

At Yale, he enjoyed playing football more than formal art lessons. He even drew a cartoon of a bandaged football player for a student paper. After his father died, he tried many different jobs before finding success.

Remington traveled to many important places to find his subjects. At age 19, he visited Montana to see the vast prairies. In 1883, he tried sheep ranching in rural Kansas.

He later went to Arizona in 1886 to work for Harper's Weekly. There, he studied the conflict involving Geronimo to make his drawings accurate. He also traveled to Canada to draw the Blackfoot and Crow Nations. These trips gave him the facts he needed for his professional career.

His career connected art with the history of a changing nation. He worked closely with Theodore Roosevelt on a book about ranch life.
