Forensic geophysics is a way to find things buried underground. It helps the law find hidden objects. These objects might be weapons or even old graves. Experts use special tools to look under the soil. They can also look under the water in lakes or rivers.

These tools work by looking for changes. They look for a difference between an object and the dirt. This helps them find the exact spot where something is hidden. This way is fast and does not damage the ground.

One common tool is ground-penetrating radar, or GPR. It uses radio waves to see deep into the earth. It can see things up to 10 meters deep. However, GPR does not work well in clay or salt soil.

Another tool is called a magnetometer. This tool finds metal objects hidden in the dirt. Some tools use sound to scan the bottom of a pond. This is called sonar. Scientists also use electrical methods to find things in clay soil. They study how well electricity moves through the ground. This helps them find hidden spots.
