History shows how much people had to hide this music. In 1899, Finland was part of the Russian Empire. Russia had rules to stop people from speaking freely. To avoid these rules, musicians used many different fake names. They sometimes called the piece "Impromptu." Other times, they used names like "Happy Feelings at the awakening of Finnish Spring." They even called it "A Scandinavian Choral March." These names helped the music be played without getting in trouble.
