Feminist theology is a way of thinking about religion. It is found in many faiths. These include Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity. It also includes Judaism and Hinduism. People in this movement look at old traditions in new ways. They want to see more women as leaders. They also want to study how women are shown in holy books.

Some thinkers look at how people talk about God. Many religions use words that sound like men. Feminist theologians may use different words. They might use words like "Mother" to show God is nurturing. Some people reject using male words for God entirely. They may believe God has no gender at all.

In the past, some people worshipped goddesses. These goddesses were often linked to nature. Some people think of nature as a mother. In the Latter-day Saint movement, people believe in a "Heavenly Mother." They see her as an equal to a Heavenly Father.

This movement began to grow in the 1960s. One writer named Valerie Saiving helped start these ideas. She questioned ideas written by men for men. Today, people still talk about these big questions.
