It is known as the industrial capital of Haryana. Many large companies have their headquarters or factories here. They make things like motorcycles, refrigerators, shoes, and tyres. Faridabad is also the largest exporter of henna in all of India. Henna is a plant used to make patterns on skin. The city also produces tractors and switch gears. Because of all this work, Faridabad and Gurgaon provide 50% of the income tax for Haryana. This money helps the state function.

The history of Faridabad goes back many hundreds of years. A man named Sheikh Farid founded the city in 1607. He was the treasurer for the Mughal emperor Jahangir. He built the city to protect the Grand Trunk Road. This important path connects the cities of Delhi and Agra. Later, after the partition in 1947, the city changed a lot. Under the leader Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, over 50,000 refugees moved to the city. This helped to bring new life to the economy and social life. In 1979, it became its own independent district.
