An exhibition is an organized way to show a selection of items.

These displays happen in many places like museums, art galleries, or parks. They help people learn about new ideas and different ways of seeing the world. Some exhibitions celebrate human creativity and the things people have built. They can be very large, like a massive World's Fair. Other shows might be small, like a display of just one single item.

Creating a great show requires a whole team of specialists. Curators are the people who choose which items to include. Designers work to shape the space and make it look right. Writers and editors create labels and books to explain the items. Architects and graphic designers help give form to the ideas. Managers must also handle the logistics and planning of the event. This teamwork helps turn a collection into a real experience.

Exhibitions have a long and interesting history. The Paris Salon of the Académie des Beaux-Arts began in 1667. It became open to the public starting in 1737. In London, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition has happened every year since 1769. The British Institution held shows from 1805 to 1867. These events helped artists build a good reputation. The tradition of the World's Fair began with the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London.

There are many different types of exhibitions to explore. Art exhibitions show things like paintings, sculptures, or even sound installations. Some art shows are called "blockbusters," like the 1960 Picasso show at Tate. Interpretive exhibitions use maps and charts to explain science or history.

Some shows are even held online using the internet.

Online exhibitions use digital tools to reach many people. They can use 3D modeling or virtual reality experiences.

This allows people to see collections from far away. Some exhibitions also travel from one place to another. These are called traveling exhibitions. While online shows are great, they cannot fully replace a physical visit. You cannot feel the same social interaction or see the layout in person. However, they are a wonderful way to learn about history and culture from home.
