People call this moral philosophy. It asks big questions. One question is, "How should one live?" Another asks, "What gives meaning to life?"

There are three main ways to think about ethics. The first is called consequentialism. This idea says an act is right if it brings the best results. For example, some say pleasure is good. They want to make the most pleasure for everyone.

The second way is called deontology. This focus is on duties. It says we must follow rules like telling the truth.

The third way is virtue ethics. This looks at being a good person. It values traits like courage and kindness.

People have studied these ideas for a long time. Ancient thinkers in Greece, China, and India shared these thoughts. Later, religious teachings helped shape these ideas too. Today, thinkers still study how to lead a good life.
