It has a bright red frame. Two white knobs sit on the front. The left knob moves a small pen left and right. The right knob moves the pen up and down. If you turn both knobs at once, you can make slanted lines.

Inside the toy, a thin layer of aluminum powder coats the screen. The pen scrapes the powder away to show dark lines. To start over, just turn the toy upside down and shake it. This moves tiny beads inside. They spread the powder back out to cover the screen.

A man named André Cassagnes invented this toy in France. It first came out in the United States in 1960. It was a huge hit! Many people loved it. In 1998, it joined the National Toy Hall of Fame.

There are even new versions today. Some use computer parts to make moving art. Others let you draw with bright colors. It is a toy that many people still enjoy.
