Long ago, people used many things to fix mistakes. They used pieces of stone or even crustless bread. In 1770, a man named Edward Nairne helped make rubber erasers popular. He found that rubber could wipe away pencil marks. Later, Charles Goodyear found a way to make rubber last longer. This way is called vulcanization.
