One goal is to help people care for the planet. This is called environmental education. It helps people understand why we must protect life. In the United States, many colleges teach this. Over 500 colleges offer degrees in this field. The University of California, Berkeley gives out many degrees. In 2019, they gave out 409 degrees. Another school is Antioch University-New England. At that school, many students study the environment. In the 1960s, the word environment became very common in schools. Teachers wanted to help children understand their surroundings. They wanted kids to be active, not just watchers. This helps them become smart leaders for the Earth.
