Emperor angelfish

life science Maturity 5-7 Next article →

The emperor angelfish is a bright fish from the ocean.

It lives in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. You can find them near coral reefs. They like to hide in caves or under ledges.

Young fish look very different from adults. They have dark blue bodies. They also have white and pale blue lines. These lines look like circles on their backs.

Adult fish have blue and yellow stripes. They have a blue mask over their eyes. Some fish in the Pacific Ocean have a long string on their fin. This is called a filament. The fish in the Indian Ocean do not have this.

These fish eat sponges and other small things. They often live in pairs. They also act as cleaner fish. This means they clean tiny bugs off of bigger fish. If they feel scared, they make a knocking sound. Many people keep them in tanks at home. They are very popular with people who love fish.
