You can also find hills on the western boundary. The landscape has old plains and rocky ridges. These rocks can appear in single groups or long lines.

There are two main seasons in Ekiti. The rainy season lasts from April to October. The dry season lasts from November to March. During the dry season, the Harmattan winds blow. The weather is tropical and can feel quite humid. In the south, you will find thick forests. The northern parts of the state are drier. These areas have a mix of forest and savanna grass. Many animals live in these spaces. You might see monkeys, parrots, or forest buffalo. There is even a small group of chimpanzees in the Ise Forest Reserve.

Ekiti has a very long history. The Ekiti people have lived here for many centuries. They are a subgroup of the Yoruba people. Long ago, different groups fought in the EkitiParapo War. This war lasted from 1877 to 1893. Later, the area became part of the British Southern Nigeria Protectorate. In 1996, Ekiti was officially carved out from Ondo State. This created the state we know today. The state is home to many towns and kings. There are 131 principal towns in the region.

People in Ekiti do many important things. Many people work in agriculture. They grow crops like yams, rice, cocoa, and cassava. The state is also famous for learning. It has the highest number of professors in Nigeria. This makes it one of the most educated states. In 2022, the state chose a special symbol. The Obeche tree is now the official state tree. This tree is important for the environment and the culture. It was chosen because it is very common in the area.
