Educational inequality happens when students do not have the same tools for learning. Some communities lack enough money for schools. They might also lack good books, computers, or strong buildings.

Many students live in places that have been treated unfairly for a long time. These students often live far away from good schools. Because of this, it is harder for them to succeed in class. This can make it difficult for them to get better jobs later in life.

There are many different ways to measure if a student is successful. Most people look at grades or test scores. Some experts also look at how well a student learns new skills. They might check if a student stays in school or finishes college.

It is important to look at more than just test scores. We should also see if students can actually use what they have learned. This helps us see the whole picture of how a person is doing.

History shows that many things cause these differences. In India, the caste system has affected how people get an education.

In other places, being part of a minority group can make school harder. For example, some children in Southeast Asia are taught in a language they do not speak. In South Asia, girls in rural areas may be left out of school. These problems are often tied to where people live and the money their families have.

Family background is a very big part of how kids do in school. Some children have many books and help with homework at home. Other children might face hard jobs like not having enough food or a stable home.

In the United States, only 11 percent of children from the bottom fifth of families earn a college degree. This is much lower than the top fifth of families. Some students also struggle if they are learning a new language at school.

Even though these problems are hard, people are working to fix them. The United Nations has a goal called Sustainable Development Goal 4. This goal wants to make sure all children get a good and fair education. Some researchers found that special actions in schools can help students who are struggling.
