Dijkstra solved many hard problems. In 1956, he found a way to solve the shortest path problem. This helps computers find the best way to get from one place to another. He also helped make the first compiler. A compiler is a tool that turns code into a language computers can use. Later, he built a system called THE. This system used a special way to manage computer memory.

Dijkstra taught many students. He worked at a school in Eindhoven. He also worked at the University of Texas at Austin.
