He was a man who loved to see the world. He spent his life climbing high peaks and traveling to far places. People remember him for his great courage and his kind heart. He was even named one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. His life was full of big adventures and hard work.

Before he was a world-famous climber, Hillary worked with bees. He lived on a farm with his father and his brother, Rex. They looked after 1,600 beehives to make honey. It was a busy job with many bee stings every day.

He also spent time as a navigator in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. During World War II, he flew on large planes called Catalina flying boats. These experiences helped him grow into a confident and brave leader.

In 1953, Hillary achieved something that changed history. He was part of a large British expedition to Mount Everest.

Hillary was a master of reaching the most remote places. In 1958, he led a group to the South Pole.

He used motor vehicles to travel across the ice. This made him the first person to reach the South Pole, the North Pole, and the top of Everest. He also climbed ten other high peaks in the Himalayas. His many trips showed how much he loved the great outdoors.

Later in life, Hillary used his success to help others. He started the Himalayan Trust in 1960 to assist the Sherpa people in Nepal.
