He spoke to millions of people on the radio and on television. He was a news anchor and a political commentator. He also worked as a sports broadcaster for many years. People listened to him to hear his thoughts on current events. His work helped him reach a very large audience across the country.

Before he was a famous host, Schultz was a talented football player. He played for Minnesota State University Moorhead on a scholarship. In 1977, he was the national leader in passing for the NAIA. He even signed with the Oakland Raiders as a free agent. Later, he tried out for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League. These early years of sports helped build his career in broadcasting.

Schultz began his media career by calling sports games. He worked in Fargo, North Dakota, for several local stations. He was known as the "Voice of the Bison" for North Dakota State University. He also did play-by-play work for the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Eventually, he moved into political talk radio. His show grew from a local program into a national one. He used his voice to share ideas with people everywhere.

His political views changed quite a bit over time. In his early years, he leaned toward the Republican side. He said he liked their views on taxes. However, his thinking changed after 1998. He traveled in a large motorhome to visit families in rural North Dakota. He also saw how hard it was to help his mother with Alzheimer's disease. Meeting his wife, Wendy, who ran a homeless shelter, also changed him. He became more liberal as he learned from these life experiences.

Schultz hosted many different programs during his career. He had a popular radio show called The Ed Schultz Show. He also hosted a television program called The Ed Show on MSNBC. This TV show started in April 2009. Later, he hosted a show called News with Ed Schultz on RT America. When his TV show ended, he started a podcast. This allowed him to keep sharing his news and commentary with his supporters.
