Cumia's path to fame began with a radio contest. He and his brother Joe entered a song contest held by Gregg "Opie" Hughes. They recorded a funny song called "Gonna Electric Shock OJ." This song was a hit and led to a job. In March 1995, he and Hughes launched the Opie and Anthony show. They moved to different stations like WAAF in Boston and WNEW in New York. The show eventually reached 17 stations across the country. They even hosted a pregame show for the XFL football league in 2001.

His career has faced many major changes and stops. In 2014, SiriusXM fired him after he posted racist tweets. These posts were about a Black woman who he said assaulted him. Later, he faced legal trouble for an incident with his girlfriend. In 2015, he was arrested for assault. He later pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing. He also spent time in a rehab facility in Florida. These events changed how he worked in the radio industry.

Despite these hard times, Cumia continued to build new things. He started a video podcast in his basement called Live from the Compound. This later grew into his own network called Compound Media. He has worked with many different people over the years. For example, he hosted a show with Artie Lange. He also worked with comedian Dave Landau. Even when shows ended, he found new ways to reach listeners. He often uses the internet to host his own programs.

Today, Cumia is back on major radio stations. In February 2025, it was announced he would join WABC. His weekly show debuted on March 9. Very quickly, other stations began to share his show nationwide. This shows how he has stayed in the media for a long time. His life has moved from New York to South Carolina. He continues to be a person people talk about in media. His journey shows how much the world of radio can change.
