Some experts focus on microeconomics to study small parts of the system. They look at individual people, households, and businesses. These small groups interact in markets to make decisions.

Other experts study macroeconomics to look at the whole system. They examine big ideas like economic growth and inflation. They also study how jobs and savings affect a whole country. This helps us understand how the global economy works together.

There are many different ways to look at these economic ideas. Some people study positive economics to describe what is actually happening. Others use normative economics to talk about what should happen.

The history of this study goes back a very long time. The word comes from an Ancient Greek term about running a home. In the 16th and 18th centuries, people called it political economy. One group called mercantilists believed wealth came from gold and silver. They wanted nations to sell many goods and buy very little. Later, a group of French thinkers called physiocrats had different ideas. They believed that only farming and land created real wealth. They even argued for a policy called laissez-faire to limit government rules.

A major change happened in 1776 with Adam Smith. He wrote a famous book called The Wealth of Nations. This book helped make economics its own separate subject. Smith said that land, labor, and capital create a nation's wealth.

He also studied how people get better at jobs through specialization. This is called the division of labor. He believed that competition helps people use their resources well. His ideas changed how we think about how countries grow and trade.

Today, economic analysis is used in almost every part of life. It helps businesses, banks, and even governments make good plans.
