People often talk about the "East" and the "West."

This idea is not just about maps. It is about culture and religion. Some places are grouped in the West even if they are far away. Australia and New Zealand are part of the West. Other lands are called the East. This includes many Muslim nations.

In the 1920s, a thinker named Tachibana Shiraki wrote about Asia. He wanted to join many Asian lands together. In 1957, a leader named Mao Zedong spoke about this too. He said the East and West were like two different winds.

Some people study how these groups talk. They say people in the East might speak in a slow, indirect way. They say people in the West might get to the point fast. But many experts say this is not always true. People use both ways to talk.

Critics say this idea is too simple. It can ignore how many people belong to both worlds. The world is full of many different ways to live.
