In many places, religion has less power in public life. It may become a private matter for each person. This can happen as science and new tools grow. Some thinkers say that economic growth also helps this change. Many advanced nations have become more secular lately.

But this change is not the same everywhere. Some people say religion is coming back. This is called desecularization. For example, religion grew again in parts of Russia and Iran.

Secularization does not always mean people stop believing. Many people who do not belong to a church still have faith. They may still take part in religious ways. Some experts say that even in Europe, the trends are mixed. The world is not moving in just one direction. It is a complex story of how people live and believe.
