This cloud is a planetary nebula. That means it is a cloud around a white dwarf. A white dwarf is a small, dim star.

Charles Messier found this cloud in 1764. It is in a group of stars called Vulpecula.

You can see it with binoculars. Many people use small telescopes to look at it.

The cloud looks like a big weight. It has many dark and bright spots. Some spots have dark tails. We call these spots knots. These knots have bright fronts. These fronts are made by light.

A star sits in the middle. This star is a white dwarf. It is larger than most other white dwarfs.

The nebula is very far away. It is about 1360 light-years from us. Some scientists think the cloud is about 9,800 years old. This is based on how fast the cloud grows. It grows at a speed of 31 km/s. The cloud is also known as Messier 27.
