Drone warfare

Drone warfare is a way of fighting that uses military robots. These are called unmanned systems because they do not have a person inside. A pilot can control them from a far distance using a remote. Some drones are even smart enough to make their own choices during a mission. These machines can move through the air, on the ground, or in the sea.

There are many different kinds of these robots. Aerial drones are called UAVs, and they fly in the sky. Ground robots are called UGVs, and they move on land. Sea drones are called USVs or UUVs, and they travel through the water.

Soldiers use them for many jobs. They use them to watch enemies, which is called reconnaissance. Some drones carry heavy supplies or even help move sick people. Other drones are used to drop bombs or hit specific targets.

In the early 2000s, the United States military used many drone strikes. These often happened in places like Afghanistan, Libya, and Yemen. These strikes used missiles to hit targets on the ground. Over time, drone use grew very fast. By 2019, many nations had their own combat drones. These included countries like China, France, India, Israel, and the United Kingdom.

The war between Russia and Ukraine is a very important part of this history. Many people call it the world's first drone war. Both armies use many types of drones, from large ones to small ones. Ukraine even created a special military branch just for drones in June 2024. This group is called the Unmanned Systems Forces. Russia followed by creating its own version in November 2025.

Drones are changing how the whole world thinks about fighting. Some people say they are as important as gunpowder was in the past. They can be very cheap to make, which helps many different groups use them. In places like Mexico, some groups use them for attacks. In Asia, countries like Azerbaijan and Turkey have used them in conflicts too.

These machines are making the way wars are fought different for everyone.
