In the early 1900s, a new kind of ship changed the sea.

This ship was called HMS Dreadnought. It was very different from older ships. Most older ships were called pre-dreadnoughts. These ships had a few big guns. They also had many smaller guns.

Dreadnought used a new design. It used an all-big-gun scheme. This means it only had very large guns. These big guns could hit targets from far away. This was important because naval battles were moving to longer ranges.

The ship also used steam turbine propulsion. This is a way to use steam to move the ship. This made the ship fast and powerful. Because Dreadnought was so new, other ships built later were called dreadnoughts too. Some were even called super-dreadnoughts. These newer ships were even bigger and stronger.

One dreadnought is still around today. It is now a museum ship for people to visit.
