Bramante used many clever tricks in his work. In Milan, he worked for a leader named Ludovico Sforza. He built a special choir at Santa Maria presso San Satiro. The space was very small there. He used a style called trompe-l'œil to fix this. This means he used painting to create an illusion. It made the wall look like a deep, real space. He also used Roman details and a dome.

His career moved from Milan to the city of Rome. He moved to Rome around 1499. A powerful man named Cardinal Riario knew him there. Later, Pope Julius II became a patron for him. In 1502, Bramante built the Tempietto at San Pietro in Montorio. This small building is very famous. It has thin Doric columns and a dome. It was meant to be very balanced and symmetrical. This building marked the start of a new style in Rome.

Bramante had many big jobs in Rome. In 1503, the Pope asked him to rebuild St. Peter's Basilica. This was a huge task for all of Europe. Bramante planned a shape called a Greek cross. He wanted it to look like perfect beauty. He also planned the Cortile del Belvedere, a large courtyard. The first stone for the new church was laid in 1506. Many people worked with him on this giant project.

Bramante was a man with many different talents. He was not just a builder of stone. He was also a painter and a writer. He even composed eighty sonnets, which are types of poems. He knew famous painters like Piero della Francesca. These artists studied how to use perspective in art. Bramante's ideas changed how people built churches for a long time. His vision for perfect shapes left a lasting mark on history.
