Donato Bramante was a famous Italian architect and painter. He lived a long time ago. He was born in a place called Fermignano.

Bramante was very good at using space. In Milan, he worked for a leader named Ludovico Sforza. Bramante made a special choir in a church. It used a trick to look deeper than it really was. This style is called trompe-l'œil. It makes art look like a real 3D shape.

Later, Bramante moved to Rome. He designed a small, round building called the Tempietto.

It has a dome and thin columns. This building helped start a new style in Rome.

His biggest job was in Rome for Pope Julius II. Bramante made plans to rebuild St. Peter's Basilica. He wanted the church to be a perfect shape. He also planned a large outdoor courtyard. This is called the Cortile del Belvedere.

Bramante did more than build. He also wrote eighty sonnets. A sonnet is a type of poem. He was a man of many talents.
