Dick Pound is a famous Canadian lawyer and sports leader. He is well known for his work in making sports fair. He was the first president of the World Anti-Doping Agency, or WADA. He also served as a vice-president for the International Olympic Committee, known as the IOC. Many people know him because he speaks up about cheating in sports. He believes that strict drug testing helps keep competition honest. His work has made him one of the most influential people in the world.

Before he was a lawyer, Pound was a very fast swimmer. He grew up in Ontario and moved to many different towns. He studied at McGill University, where he swam for the McGill Redmen. He won three gold medals in Canadian college races. He even competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. In those games, he finished sixth in the 100 meter freestyle race. He also won several medals at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Australia.

After his swimming days ended, Pound turned to the law. He earned many degrees, including a law degree from McGill in 1967. He later became a partner at a law firm in Montreal. He even wrote books about the history of laws. Pound used his legal skills to help run the Olympic movement. He helped the IOC make much more money through television and sponsorship deals. This helped change the Olympics into a huge global event.

As a leader, Pound has faced many hard jobs and big arguments. He led an inquiry into corruption during the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. He also led a famous study into cheating in Russian athletics. His team found that some officials helped athletes use banned drugs. This led to big changes in how those sports are run. He has also had disagreements with famous bicycle racers and hockey leaders. These debates often happen because he wants very strict rules for everyone.

Today, Pound is still a very important part of the sports world. He is the longest-serving member of the IOC. He has held many roles, such as chairman of Olympic Broadcasting Services. He has worked on many different committees for the Olympics since 1974. His life shows how one person can move from being an athlete to a leader. He uses his voice to protect the spirit of fair play. He wants every athlete to win by following the rules.
