He was born in 1716 at the Angel Inn in Hereford. His family had roots in France, but they moved to Britain long ago. Garrick became very important because he changed how people acted on stage. Before him, actors used a very loud and grand style. Garrick preferred a more natural way to perform. This new style helped audiences connect with the stories. He was a leader who influenced almost all parts of European theater in the 1700s.

Becoming a star took many steps and a lot of hard work.

Garrick first tried to run a wine business in London. The business did not do well, so he turned to acting. He started with small parts at the Goodman's Fields Theatre in 1741. He even used a fake name, Lyddal, to hide his acting from his family. His big break came when he played the title role in Richard III. This performance was so natural that everyone in London began to talk about him. Soon, he was playing many different roles in just six months.

History shows that Garrick was much more than just an actor.
