Dakhla Oasis is a special place in Egypt. It sits in the Western Desert. It is part of the New Valley Governorate. The oasis is far from the Nile River. It sits between the Farafra and Kharga oases. The land is very hot and dry. It is a desert climate.

Dakhla is made of many small towns. These towns sit along a line of smaller oases. Some main towns are Mut and El-Masara. Another town is called Al-Qasr. This town was built in the 12th century. It was built on an old Roman fort. Some buildings there are made of mud brick. They can be four stories tall.

Many old things are found here. People found clay tablets in a palace. These tablets had lists and letters on them. In 2017, workers found five mud-brick tombs. They found gold masks and large jars inside. You can also see petroglyphs. These are carvings made in rocks. They show people and animals. They date from long ago to the Islamic period.
