geography Maturity 9-11 Next article →

Dakahlia is a place in the Nile Delta. It is in the northeast part of Egypt. The land is very flat. One branch of the Nile River flows through it. This water makes the soil very good for farms. Dakahlia sits near many other areas. To the north is Kafr El-Sheikh. To the east is Damietta and Sharqiya. To the south is Qalyubia. To the west is Gharbia.

Many people live in Dakahlia. They live in busy cities like Mansoura. Mansoura is the capital city. There are other cities too, like Mit Ghamr and Talkha. To the east, the land meets Lake Manzala. This is one of the largest lakes in Egypt. People use the lake for fishing.

History is found all over the land. Experts found many old tombs. Some tombs are from 4,000 B.C. One site had 110 tombs. Some were oval and some were rectangular. They found gold masks and jewels inside. Long ago, King Ahmose III built a great temple. Only a large stone box, called a sarcophagus, remains there. It is the largest one in Egypt.
