life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Some centipedes belong to a family called Cryptopidae. These bugs are blind. This means they lack ocelli, or simple eyes. They also have 21 pairs of legs. One group in this family is called Cryptops. This group is very large. It has more than 150 species. Species are different kinds of living things. These bugs live all over the world. There are other groups in this family too. These include Eremops and Mimops. Other groups are Paracryptops and Tonkinodentus. There are also Trigonocryptops. Some bugs used to be part of this family. These were the Plutonium and Theatops groups. Now they belong to a new family. This new family is called Plutoniumidae. Scientists moved them into this new group. It is interesting to see how bugs change. We can still study all these different kinds.
