People who follow this idea believe in socialist economics. They find the reasons for these beliefs in the Bible. Many Christian socialists think that capitalism can lead to greed. They see greed as a sin that causes people to be unequal. They want to use their faith to create a fairer world for everyone.

Socialism is a system that focuses on how a society manages its resources. Instead of individuals owning everything privately, socialism calls for public control.

This means that property and natural resources are managed for the benefit of all people. The idea is that people do not live or work alone. Instead, they live in cooperation with one another. Everything people produce is seen as a social product. Therefore, everyone who helps make something should receive a fair share of it.

This way of living has a very long history. Early Christian communities in Jerusalem practiced sharing their goods and labor.

Some groups, like the Hutterites, still practice common ownership of property today. In the 14th century, people like Wat Tyler and John Ball were linked to these ideas. Later, during the 19th century, the movement became very important in the United Kingdom. Many writers and thinkers helped shape these views during that time. They wanted to show how faith and social change could work together.

Many famous names are connected to this history. In the 1800s, writers like F. D. Maurice and John Ruskin shared these ideas.

In the United States, Francis Bellamy wrote the Pledge of Allegiance and was a Baptist minister. Keir Hardie helped found the Labour Party in Britain by using the New Testament as inspiration. In the early 1900s, ministers like Franklin Spencer Spalding spoke up for miners in the American West. These people used their specific roles to advocate for the working class and the poor.

These beliefs connect to many stories found in the Bible. In the Old Testament, prophets like Amos and Isaiah spoke about justice for the poor.

In the New Testament, many look to the teachings of Jesus. For example, the Parable of the Good Samaritan teaches that neighbors include anyone in need. Jesus also spoke about being blessed, even when people are hungry or poor. Christian socialists see these ancient stories as a foundation for modern social justice. They believe that caring for the needy is a central part of their faith.
