Many people use different ideas to decide what is right. Some focus on building a good character. This is called virtue ethics. Others focus on following rules or duties. Some believe in natural law. This is the idea that people can know right from wrong using reason. They feel this truth is written on their hearts.

Some groups focus on social justice. They look at how groups of people act. This is sometimes called prophetic ethics. These thinkers look at the world to find ways to help.

These ideas have grown for a very long time. They began with the early church. In the Middle Ages, thinkers like Thomas Aquinas used logic to explain faith. Later, the Reformation changed how people saw work and God. Today, people still use the Bible and reason to think about these big questions.
