He was a man who cared deeply about people living in small villages. Many people called him the "Champion of Farmers" because he fought for their rights. He believed that farmers should own the land they worked on. This idea helped many people find a better way to live. Singh was also a writer who shared his ideas in many books.

He lived a simple life and enjoyed reading in his spare time.

Singh worked hard to change how land was used in India. He helped create new laws to make things fairer for workers. One big change was the abolition of the zamindari system. This system meant that some landlords had too much power over others. By changing these laws, Singh helped give land to the people who actually farmed it. He also helped set up a way to make sure farmers received fair prices for their crops. This helped protect them during hard times like droughts.

These studies helped him understand the laws that affected village life.

Singh was also a brave person who fought for India's freedom. He followed the peaceful ways of the leader Mahatma Gandhi. Because he protested against British rule, the government put him in jail several times. In 1930, he was sent to jail for 12 years because of salt laws. He was jailed again in 1940 and 1942. Later in his life, he held many high jobs in the government. He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He was also the Deputy Prime Minister. In 1979, he became the Prime Minister of India.

Many leaders still show respect to him today. For example, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to him at Parliament House. In 2024, the Indian government gave him the Bharat Ratna. This is a very special honor given to people who have done great things for the country.
