This region is the widest part of the island. It lies right between the Kantō and Kansai regions. Chūbu includes many different places like the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. It is also home to the famous Mount Fuji.

Because it is in the center, it connects the east and west of the country.

The land in Chūbu changes a lot depending on where you stand. High, rugged mountains called the Japanese Alps sit in the center. These mountains divide the land into two distinct sides. The Pacific side stays sunny during the winter months. The Sea of Japan side gets very snowy in the winter.

Most of the land is mountainous and steep. Only a few areas, like the Nōbi Plain, are flat. This makes the geography very interesting to explore.

People often divide Chūbu into three main subregions. The first is Tōkai, which sits by the Pacific Ocean. This area includes the big city of Nagoya.

Tōkai is a busy place for travel and industry. It has fast trains and highways connecting major cities. The second part is Kōshin'etsu, known as the "roof of Japan." This area has high mountains and many valleys. People here used to produce a lot of silk.

The third subregion is called Hokuriku. It sits along the Sea of Japan coastline. This part of the region sees very heavy snowfall. The snow can sometimes even block major roads.

Strong winds also blow through this area in the winter. The rivers here are very powerful and create electricity. Hokuriku also has ports for trading with places like Russia and China. It is a very different environment from the sunny Pacific side.

Many large cities make Chūbu a busy place to live. As of June 2019, the population was over 23 million people.

Nagoya is the largest city and a center for making machinery. Other important cities include Niigata, Shizuoka, and Kanazawa. The Chūbu Centrair International Airport helps people travel to many places. Even though the mountains are rugged, the region is very well connected. It plays a huge role in the economy of Japan.
