This land holds many ancient secrets from long ago. In the Lore Lindu National Park, you can find over 400 granite megaliths. These are huge stone shapes left by people in the past.

Some of these stones even look like human forms. There are also large stone pots called Kalamba with stone lids. Some carvings date back between 3000 BC and 1300 AD. Deep caves also hold very old mysteries.

Researchers found cave pictures that are at least 40,000 years old. You might even find old bronze objects like the Makassar Axe. This axe dates to the 1st century AD.

History in this area has changed many times. In the 13th century, several kingdoms like Banawa and Sigi existed. Islam began to spread through the region in the 16th century. This happened because of kingdoms in South Sulawesi. Later, Dutch traders arrived at the start of the 17th century. They built forts in Parigi to stop pirates.

The Dutch ruled the area for three hundred years. They were eventually pushed out by the Japanese during World War II. After the Japanese surrendered, the land became part of the Republic of Indonesia.

Central Sulawesi has a very large population of people. In 2020, the census counted 2,985,734 people living there. This makes it the second-largest population on Sulawesi island. A very large number of these people are children. About one million people, or 35 percent, are young.

Most of these children live in rural areas rather than cities. In 2015, more than 185,000 children lived below the poverty line. This means their families had very little money for daily needs. Many other families live in a vulnerable position with low incomes.

The province became its own separate place on 13 April 1964. Before that, it was part of North Sulawesi. Today, it is a place of many different cultures. You can see traditional houses and unique clothing.
