Her journey in combat sports started when she was quite young. She began training in kickboxing at the age of fourteen. Soon, she moved into amateur boxing competitions. She was very successful and had a record of 75 wins and 5 losses. Before turning professional, she earned a gold medal at the 2005 European Championships. She also won a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships. These early wins helped her prepare for the professional world.

Cecilia's life has taken her across different parts of the world. She was born in Cartagena, Colombia, in 1981. When she was two years old, she was adopted by parents from Norway. She grew up in a place called Sandviken in Bergen. Her career later took her to many different countries. She fought matches in Finland, Denmark, Germany, and the United States. Even her final professional fight took place in Lillestrøm, Norway.

She holds many impressive records from her long career. In 2018, Guinness World Records gave her three special recognitions. They named her the longest reigning female boxing champion. They also recognized her as the longest reign as a four-belt undisputed champion. Finally, she was honored for having the most bouts undefeated by a female world champion. She held the WBC and WBA titles for over 11 years. That is a very long time to stay at the top.

Boxing is a sport that requires great discipline and focus. Cecilia showed this by winning many major awards. In 2017, the Boxing Writers Association of America named her their first Female Fighter of the Year. She also won "Female Boxer of the Year" from a German magazine in 2010. She finished her career with a final big win in October 2025. In that last fight, she defeated Ema Kozin to win the WBC and WBO titles. She truly left a mark on the world of sports.
