As a striker, her main job was to score goals and lead the attack. She was a prolific scorer for the German national team. She played in 214 matches and scored 128 goals for her country. This makes her the most capped player and top scorer for Germany. Her skill on the field earned her many famous awards. She was named the FIFA World Player of the Year three times in 2003, 2004, and 2005.

Prinz followed a clear path to become a star through many different clubs. She began her career at SV Dörnigheim FC before moving to FSV Frankfurt. At FSV Frankfurt, she played from 1993 to 1998 and won two Bundesliga titles. She then moved to 1. FFC Frankfurt, where she found her biggest success. During 13 seasons there, she won six Bundesliga titles and eight German Cup titles. She also won the UEFA Women's Cup three times with the club. In the United States, she played for the Carolina Courage in the WUSA. This was the first professional women's league in America, and she won a championship there in 2002.

Her journey with the German national team started when she was very young. She made her debut at age 16 in July 1994 against Canada. In that very first game, she scored the winning goal in the 89th minute. She was also the youngest player to ever appear in a World Cup Final. Her international career lasted for many years and brought much glory to Germany. She won four UEFA European Championships in 1997, 2001, 2005, and 2009. She also won three bronze medals at the Summer Olympics in 2000, 2004, and 2008.

Prinz reached the highest peaks of her sport during two major World Cups. She helped Germany win its first FIFA Women's World Cup title in 2003. During that tournament, she was the best player and the top scorer. She became the team captain at the end of 2003 and kept the role until she retired. In 2007, she captained the team to a second World Cup victory. At that tournament, she won the Silver Ball as the second-best player. She finished her World Cup career with 14 goals, which is the second-most ever.

After she finished her active playing career in 2011, Prinz started a new chapter. She used her education to help athletes in a different way. She is a trained physical therapist and earned a master's degree in psychology. Since January 2012, she has worked as a sport psychologist. She works with the youth academy and the professional teams at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Her work helps players manage their minds just as she once managed the ball.
