You will see many monuments at the cape. Some are stone markers. One is a tall tower made of granite. It is 19.83 metres tall. This is the Tower of Prayer. It honors 269 people from a flight in 1983. There is also a Monument of Peace. It honors people lost at sea in 1943.

A small settlement sits just east of the cape. It has many things that are the furthest north in Japan. You can find the northernmost lighthouse there. There is also a school and a gas station. The Ainu people used the name 'notetu' for this place. In their language, 'not' means chin. The word 'etu' means nose. Some think Soya means rocky shore.
