This place is near the Kuril Islands. It is north of the island of Shumshu. Long ago, the Ainu people lived here. It was their northernmost home.

The weather at the cape is very cold and wet. A strong ocean current makes it chilly. The winds are also very strong. These winds make the air feel even colder.

Most days are cloudy and gray. There is not much sun. The area gets about 1,050 hours of sun each year. This is a small amount. Clear days are very rare.

Even though it is cold, the ground does not stay frozen. This is because the average temperature stays around -0.5 degrees Celsius. The winters are not too harsh. In the summer, it is mild but very foggy. Heavy rain can sometimes clear the fog in September or October.
