The cape is a high place. The top of the land is much higher than the land on either side. It marks the south end of the Hudson Strait. This water path is across from Resolution Island.

This place is very important for how water moves. Cape Chidley is the end of the Laurentian Divide. This is a line that splits the way water flows. One side of the line drains into the Arctic Ocean watershed. This includes the Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay. The other side drains into the Atlantic Ocean watershed.

This divide helps scientists understand where water goes on the land. The cape is a key spot for this natural system.

People have visited this area for a long time. An English explorer named John Davis arrived here in 1587. He named the cape after his friend, John Chidley.

Later, people used the area for science. In 1943, workers set up Weather Station Kurt just south of the cape. They wanted to collect data about the weather. In the 1950s, there were plans for a radar station called N-30. Supplies were moved there by ship in 1951 and 1952.

The land around the cape has many features. The Torngat Mountains run along the coast of Labrador. These mountains end right at Killiniq Island.

A narrow water path called McLelan Strait separates the island from the mainland. You can also find the Cape Chidley Islands at the north end of the cape. The area used to have a nearby community called Port Burwell. That community was evacuated in 1978.

Cape Chidley helps us see how land and water connect. It sits where mountains meet the sea.

It is a place where different territories and oceans meet too. The map shows how the cape sits in its large region. The cliffs and islands make it a unique part of the coast. It is a major landmark on the edge of the Arctic and Atlantic worlds.
