The Torngat Mountains run along the coast. These mountains end at Killiniq Island. The cape is a special place for water. It marks the Laurentian Divide. This is a line that splits the water. One side flows to the Arctic Ocean. The other side flows to the Atlantic Ocean. The cape is much higher than the land near it. It marks the south end of the Hudson Strait. This water path is across from Resolution Island. An explorer named John Davis named this place in 1587. He named it after his friend, John Chidley.
