People built these stones a long time ago. They were made around 2750 BC. This was even before Stonehenge was built. The stones form a circle. Thirteen stones make up the ring. A very tall stone stands near the middle. It is 4.8 metres high. It looks like a ship's rudder.

Rows of stones reach out from the circle. These rows make a shape like a cross. One long row is called an avenue. It is 83.2 metres long. There are also three shorter rows.

Inside the circle, there is a chambered tomb. This is a place for the dead.

For many years, the stones were hidden. A thick layer of peat covered them. Peat is a type of dark soil. In 1857, people cleared the soil away. Now, the stones are a protected site. You can visit them today.
